Mid Century Modern Real Estate Round Up - Indianapolis

Six Mid Century Modern Homes for sale in Indianapolis.

A previous Atomic Indy post highlighted several Mid Century Modern houses for sale in Indianapolis. Theory of MCM's recession-proof-ness seems to be holding up. Several gems have come and gone. Quickly receiving multiple offers - in this economy - while McMansions sit empty by the hundreds.

MCM inventory in Indy dried-up briefly. Until last week. Indy's Mid Century Modern Realtor, Joe Shoemaker started sending us listings, and they just kept coming. Shortly after, other MCM-friendly Realtors, Sherri Roizen-Watson and Holly Puckett joined in. What follows is the culmination.

Let's review.

1500 W 101st St. (map)

$229,900

Won't last long. Can't last long. The price, location, and architectural appeal are too much to handle. Sherri Roizen-Watson sent this listing excitedly. Within minutes, Joe Shoemaker was on site giving a near-real-time virtual video tour while I followed from the office. Joe, the MCM hipster Realtor strikes again.

Nice approach.

Original metal cabinets in great condition.

Wall of windows delights.

One bathroom remains intact.

Master bathroom was renovated without architectural forethought and feels force-fit.

Dig the lofted office.

___

9221 N Washington BL. (map)

$167,900

Joe Shoemaker mentioned this as one of his favorites. Upon seeing first pic I was skeptical. Was told to keep going. Frown turned upside down. Quickly.

Unassuming approach.

Rear facade tips hand to cards being held.

Wall of window - True MCM trait. Note what appears to be cool, corner fireplace and built-in planter along left windows.

Non-architecturally appropriate kitchen "updates" are a near-constant these days. Believe Mid Century Modern homes should come with a manual. Working on one.

___

7993 N Ashton Dr. (map)

$99,500

Price of this home stuns. Someone's got to go check it out and post our comments for us.

Nice-looking flat roof home. Arbor over front door is questionable but easily remedied.

Kitchen "updates" strike again. Definitely workable.

Digging glass block windows.

Rear facade.

___

6902 Sargent Rd. (map)

$329,00

Interesting home. have not been it. Yet.

Love this exterior.

Dig wall of stone and partially-floating staircase. Could be fantastic room in right hands.

Decor change and mantle removal would set this space right.

___

3210 Lindbergh Dr. (map)

$190,000

I see potential. Do you?

Rear elevation is intriguing.

Original built-ins. Picture killer fixtures from Rejuvenation hanging here.

I know. Cool. Right?

Dig hanging fireplace set.

Overall digging of this one. Potential is easily grasped.

___

125 Rose Ln. (map)

$139,900

This abode intrigues. Dig it.

Street-side view/montage.

Have a weakness for built-ins.

Original tub. Am looking for one of these. Email us if you have a line on one.

Rear.

___

5 W. 79th St. (map)

$429,900

Let me start by saying, "wow". Not to say it doesn't have certain challenges but this is a remarkable home, designed by local architect Harry Cooler. Holly Puckett first brought this one to our attention. Home sits on a cul-de-sac off Meridian, neighbored by another remarkable Mid Century Modern.

Look close, note unique line created by staircase rising at an angle, visible through walls of glass.

Light fixtures are one of aforementioned challenges, but easily remedied.

Decor hides through-and-through fireplace. Kitchen is visible through fireplace.

Mother of all kitchen "updates". $40,000 update, which fights the architectural presence of the home. That said, was well crafted with high quality finishes. Original Thermadore cooktop remains.

Look closely - that's me in the pic, awe-struck, wondering how I suddenly ended up in a Carmel McMansion kitchen when just moments prior I had been touring an incredible Mid Century Modern home.

If you're in the market for a Mid Century Modern home in Indianapolis, you have plenty to see. At every price point. There are a few more out there which we don't yet have pics for yet. We emphatically recommend Joe Shoemaker to help you navigate the waters. He simply gets it.

Happy hunting.

Cheers,

-Baz

  4. Hey Baz, we have a few of homes in Ladywood for sale. The easiest way to find their listings is to go to www.mibor.com and search Marion County, Washington Township for homes built between 1960 and 1970. Ladywood homes are on Nob Lane or Brief Run. Ladywood was designed by famous Indy architect Avriel Shull. Great neighborhood full of cool hipster people.
