Mid Century Modern Gem Hiding in Evansville, Indiana.
This house is for real. Received email from son of original owners. Am posting it near-verbatim (some words were changed to protect the innocent).
"I love your new MCM Real Estate Round-up. My sister is going to send you a suggested listing for my Mom & Dad's lakefront home in Evansville, IN. Both have passed away and their wonderful MCM home is on the market. We're on our second Realtor because they just don't get MCM design. Everything should be "updated" they keep telling us. This home has incredible character and all of the original kitchen (except newer stove and dishwasher) and baths. It even has custom stained glass artwork designed by my uncle above the sunken tub in the master bathroom. My Dad designed the house in the early 1960's, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. The home has a distinct oriental flair and sits on a private lake with absolutely gorgeous unobstructed views from the living room. Coolest thing about the house is the gorgeous French Lick sandstone. Unfortunately, all of the original Nelson bubble lamps disappeared and were replaced by capiz shell lamps on one of their many trips to the far east. Luckily, I was able to get most of their MCM pieces which are now proudly displayed at our home. Just wish I had those Nelson lamps!"

ReplyDeleteI die. Those stairs, that teal tub tile, those wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows, are you KIDDING ME?? And are those Asian-inspired sliding doors? *sigh*

I now have a reason to move close to my E-ville inlaws!
ReplyDeleteWas in Eville this weekend and stopped by, as my wife has relatives less than a mile away. Beautiful home! The natural surroundings work well with the home's design.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous home!!!! But the price is also steep. Let's see if in near future some discounts are on offer.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Magnificent! I wouldn't change a thing... What a Gorgeous Home.... Just think of how great homes could have been if architects didn't lose all since of imagination, and start stamping out the garbage we see today.
